An Essential Tool for Educators

Timely return of exams is critical because it provides students useful feedback for them to have a clear understanding of their progress toward accomplishing course learning objectives. Faculty, however, often face many time-consuming challenges such as manual entry of scores, which will likely cause delay in exam release and unnecessary anxiety among students. To help faculty address these challenges, we provide a tool to automate the grading of standard exam forms such as Scantron(1) and export scores for direct import into learning management systems (LMS).

More specifically, the grading tool enables faculty to the following:

Clearly mark correct/wrong answers on student forms

Correct and wrong answers are marked in different colors for quick reading. On the example shown below, red marks indicate the keys but student answers are wrong; green ones indicate students’ correct answers. The bottom line shows student ID, exam version, and total score.

Save each graded form as a separate PDF file

Individual PDF files can be emailed to individual students. Alternatively, they may be uploaded to LMS such as Canvas through API.

Save all scores in a CSV file

The CSV file can be uploaded to LMS and imported into the grade book with minimal edit. As such faculty would not need to perform any manual entry, which is often error-prone particularly when the class size is large. An example of CSV data is shown below.

Save students' scores on each question in the CSV file.

Such data provide more granulate data for student/item analysis, which is often a critical step in continuous assessment as required by accreditation bodies such as AACSB.
